Renown for his sculptural practice which consists in turning objects of everyday use inside out, artist Roman Stańczak transforms the Polish Pavilion in a sort of hangar. For the occasion, he applies this procedure to a mid-sized aircraft, so that its interior, complete of equipments and passenger seats, is visible on the outside part of the sculpture, while the wings point towards the inside. The surreal reversed sculpture becomes the symbol of Poland’s capitalist transformation and of its inconsistencies: while some aspects of the society moved fast towards modernisation others were permanently left behind.
