Pedro Neves Marques is representing Portugal at the 59th Venice Biennale. Through the figure of the “vampire” and playing on the expectations that this term inspires, the artist will address issues of identity and gender, themes such as queer sexuality and reproduction, as well as non-nuclear family forms.
t is a multidisciplinary work, between film and installation, readable on several levels and with a narrative approach, as is often the case in Neves Marques‘ research. The project will take the form of a site-specific installation for the rooms of Palazzo Franchetti, which dates back to the second half of the 15th century and is one of the most remarkable pieces of Gothic architecture in the lagoon city.
