Enclavia – Painting, Consequence of This Kind of Life
The Pavilion of the Republic of Serbia at the 57th Venice Biennale hosts the group show “Enclavia” by the painters Vladislav Šćepanović, Milena Dragicevic and Dragan Zdravković.
Every artist gives in her/his own way an image capturing the today’s reality: Vladislav Šćepanović and Dragan Zdravković, who live permanently in Serbia, explore vitality in the productive scenery while Milena Dragicevic investigates the global experience of living in diaspora.
The selection of works, under the title of “Enclavia”, communicates author’s loneliness whose approaches underway aspects of 21st century changes.
The act of painting becomes a stand to conquer freedom and struggle media and consumerist forces.
The title also suggests a continuation of the geopolitical tension and, for this reason, the exhibition is placed in the original pavilion of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The paintings by these authors transform the rectangular space of the Pavilion of the Republic of Serbia, as a structural exposition of political, situational and existential circumstances of our time.
