Singapore 2017

Zai Kunig is the selected artist to represent Singapore at the 57th Venice Biennale.

The project “Dapunta Hyang: Transmission of knowledge” is the culmination of over 20 years of the artist’s work researchig on on Malay culture and history in Southeast Asia as part of a broader inquiry on identity. The main piece of the exhibition in a 17 meters long ship suspended all across the entire hall. This vessel is the biggest, the most complicated and largest one of a long series of works he has made during more than 20 years in his artistic practice.
