Switzerland 2025
A open-ended process of "resounding architecture", converging past and present voices.
Title: “Endgültige Form wird von der Architektin am Bau bestimmt”
Commissioner: Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia: Sandi Paucic, Rachele Giudici Legittimo
Curators/Exhibitors: Elena Chiavi, Kathrin Füglister, Amy Perkins, Axelle Stiefel, and Myriam Uzor
The exhibition explores the architectural legacy of Lisbeth Sachs, one of Switzerland’s first registered female architects. It juxtaposes her work with Bruno Giacometti’s design of the Swiss Pavilion, asking what it might have looked like if designed by Sachs instead of Giacometti. The aim is to highlight the historical absence of women architects in the Giardini and promote inclusivity in architecture.
The exhibition reconstructs elements of Sachs’ radial floor plan and integrates a sound installation, creating an immersive, multi-sensory space. Visitors will experience architecture as a resonating entity, where recorded conversations, ambient sounds, and construction noises bring together past and present voices.
