Maria Madeira is one of Timor-Leste’s most significant contemporary visual artists working internationally, yet her practice is deeply embedded in local traditions, concerns and histories. The artist presents at the 60th Venice Biennale “Kiss and Don’t Tell,” a site-specific installation made with the use of local materials such as traditional textile, betelnut, earth and pigments.
