Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim has been selected to represent the United Arab Emirates at the 59th Venice Biennale. To increase an artistic-led approach to the pavilion, was the artist Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim identified Maya Allison, Executive Director of The New York University Abu Dhabi Art Gallery, as curator of the exhibition. “Between Sunrise and Sunset” is an installation of human-sized, abstract and organic sculptural forms that reflect Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim’s connection with nature and the local environment in his hometown, Khor Fakkan.
The title of the exhibition is inspired by the fact that from Khor Fakkan – located on the east coast of the Emirate of Sharjah – the sun rises over the ocean, giving colourful bright dawns, while it disappears over the Al Hajar mountains, making it impossible to actually see the sunset.
