The Pavilion unites a diverse team of curators, researchers, craftsmen, and artists, led by architectural firm Studio KO, to investigate the ruins of the Qalas, ancient fortresses in the Karakalpakstan region and the Khorezm civilization’s heritage. This research-based project explores Uzbekistan’s architectural heritage as a means to challenge modernity and envision the future. Collaborating with students and professors from Ajou University in Tashkent, the team delves into the materiality of bricks, soil, and clay, which are the foundation of Uzbek architecture.
