Anicka Yi selected for the next Hyunday Commission for Turbine Hall
Korean Anicka Yi has been chosen as the next artist to take over the Turbine Hall, London, as the sixth recipient of the Hyundai Motor’s annual Commission. The artist will display a site-specific installation, her largest project ever, which will be on view from October 6, 2020, until January 10, 2021, at Tate Modern.
Yi’s multimedia pieces investigate topics related to migration, gender, and class, engaging with art, science, philosophy and non-human forms of intelligence, to explore the developments of humanity’s relationship with technology and nature.
Her works were exhibited before at the Korean Pavilion during the 2019 Venice Biennale, the Whitney Biennial (2017), and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (2016).
The Hyundai Commission will be curated by Mark Godfrey, senior curator; Petra Schmidt, production manager; and Carly Whitefield, assistant curator.
