Anita Dube to Curate Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2018
The next edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, scheduled for the year 2018, will be curated by Indian contemporary artist Anita Dube.
“Through three editions, KMB has gained a reputation for being one of the most important exhibitions of its kind around the world. It is an honour and a very big challenge to be declared curator of this wonderful platform. I am delighted that the jurors thought I can deliver. I accept the responsibility with excitement and humility. It is early days yet and my thoughts will no doubt undergo several changes going forward, but I view this as an opportunity to do something special,” said Dube.
Born in 1958 inLucknow, India and currently based in New Delhi, she was trained as an art historian and critic.
Dube’s mixed-media sculptures and installations reflect her concern with personal and societal loss, journeys, transformation, and regeneration. Her practice is primarily based in sculpture but also includes photography, video, installation and performance. Through always mercurial and self-critical, her practice has evolved with specific materials (velvet and other fabrics used as skins for found objects; the copper and enamel eyes used on temple statuary; re-cycled packing materials) and in the past decade she has become increasingly involved with language and texts as her subjects, used both as metaphorical devices and abstract epistemologies.
