Art in Miami Design District during Art Basel

If you’re in Miami for Art Basel you will be of course visiting the Design District. To make the most out of it, My Art Guides has selected the unmissable exhibitions and happenings during the art week.

Locust Projects presents Pore, an exhibition of new work by Brooklyn-based artist Martha Friedman, whose artistic practice is always highly intelligent, yet never without a sense of the surreal and absurd.

On view in ICA Miami’s Atrium Gallery, Alex Bag‘s show centers around one of her seminal videos, The Van (2001), and features a dramatic new site-specific installation created for the museum’s current location in the landmark Moore Building in Miami’s Design District.  Also at the Moore Building Jeffrey Deitch and Larry Gagosian collaborate to present, Unrealism an Exhibition of New Figurative Painting and Sculpture in the Miami Design District. At Melin Building Galerie Perrotin present the film Ellis and an exhibition of photographs by JR and White Cube presents 6 x 6 An Improvisation, an off-site project organised to coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach.

Rosa and Carlos de la Cruz have selected a group of artists from their personal collection who have been associated with defining 21st-century practice. The exhibition, titled You’ve Got to Know the Rules…to Break Them contextualizes New American Painting with German Neo-Expressionism, revealing earnest explorations of the artists’ technical acumen. Through experimentation, they antagonize accepted practices by drawing upon a variety of themes including cultural, historical and sociopolitical modes.

100+ Degrees in The Shade. A Survey of South Florida Art, is an expansive show includes an array of works in all media, by a selection of some of the finest artists of South Florida, with a vast and remarkable array of events that will take place in different locations as Carol Jazzer, Friedric Snitzer, Girls’ Club, ecc.

2015 Design Visionary Award presented by Panerai  celebrates andacknowledges designer Yves Béhar for his holistic design vision and for the substantial impact he has made through humanitarian projects such as the INDEX-award winning One Laptop Per Child and See Better To Learn Better.
