Artissima 2019: Back to the Future Celebrates its 10th Anniversary
The 2019 edition of Artissima celebrates the 10th anniversary of the section Back to the Future, a section focussing on the rediscovery of masters and pioneers of contemporary art. On the occasion, the fair features an overview of the artists that have been featured in Back to the Future since 2010, surveying their careers and how their position in the art market has evolved since their participation in the fair.
This curated section – which focuses on the 1960s–1990s, – features solo booths by artists who played a fundamental role in the art production of this period. The section is coordinated by Lorenzo Giusti, director, GAMeC – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Bergamo, with the curatorial team of Cristiano Raimondi, independent curator and artistic director of Società delle Api, and Nicolas Trembley, independent curator, art critic and curator of the SYZ Collection, Geneva.
It showcases works by 19 artists, represented by 19 galleries (16 international 3 Italian). A jury selects the gallery with the most interesting project to receive the Sardi per l’Arte Back to the Future Prize, created in 2014 in partnership with Fondazione Sardi per l’Arte, a private Turin-based institution.
