Artist collective Isuma selects curatorial team of Canada Pavilion at 58th Venice Art Biennale
The artist collective Isuma, founded in 1990 as Canada’s first Inuit-owned independent production company and led by Zacharias Kunuk and Norman Cohn, appointed a curatorial team for Canada‘s representation at La Biennale di Venezia in 2019. Isuma was selected as Canada’s official entry at the 58th International Art Exhibition in December 2017 by the National Gallery of Canada.
The five chosen curators include Asinnajaq, Catherine Crowston, Barbara Fischer, Candice Hopkins, and Josée Drouin-Brisebois and will mark the first team to curate the project for Canada Pavilion at Venice Biennale. The five names bring as strengths to the project their previous experiences in curating international exhibitions including Venice Biennale itself and documenta, in working with northern communities, and specific knowledge of the means used by the featured artists, namely film and media.
The 58th Biennale di Venezia will take place from Saturday, May 11 to Sunday, November 24, 2019.
