Painter and sculptor Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim has been selected to represent the United Arab Emirates at the 59th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, postponed form 2021 to 2022, from April 23 – November 27.

Ibrahim is a revolutionary and pioneering artist in the creative scenario of his country, one the precursors of the Arab conceptual art. He was part of the avant-garde artistic community working in the UAE during the 1980s. His works are exhibited in some of the most important art collection of the world, such as the British Museum, the Centre Pompidou and the Sharjah Art Foundation.

He already participated in the Venice Biennale in 2009, when the UAE exhibited for the first time in a national pavilion, also being the first country of the Arabian gulf to be featured.

The pavilion will be curated by Maya Allison, Executive Director of the New York University Abu Dhabi Art Gallery, one of the main experts of UAE’s contemporary art scenario, who already collaborated with Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim to many projects.
