Artist Nama Tsaabar’s performance occurring at Faena Art Center during Art Basel Cities: Buenos Aires
Under the artistic direction of Cecilia Alemani, Art Basel Cities: Buenos Aires is an international event which takes over the Argentinian capital in the beginning of September. A diverse programme of projects, exhibitions, installations, performances and events animates Buenos Aires’s cultural scene, constituting a bridge between Argentinian and worldwide professionals.
On the occasion of this year edition of the programme, artist Nama Tsaabar‘s first solo show takes place at Faena Art Center. The performance by the Israeli artist, titled Melodies of Certain Damage (Opus 2), merges sculptural and sonic elements to discard the monumentality of the location which hosts it and present it as a structure of power.
The iconic gesture of smashing the guitar is reacted by the performer to use the resulting scattered pieces as a new interactive environment, to be experienced by both the artist and the assisting audience. Tsabar usually works creating experiential installations that explore questions of power, eroticism, gender, and memory.
