Artistic Residencies in Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and Trentino-Alto Adige for Sustainable Tourism

January 27, 2025

The iNEST project – Interconnected Nord-Est Innovation Ecosystem – aims to foster innovation and sustainability through collaboration between universities and local businesses and communities. Ca’ Foscari University of Venice leads Spoke 6, dedicated to Tourism, Culture, and Creative Industries. Within this ecosystem of innovation, the CC3 – Citizen Engagement initiative – under the scientific supervision of Professor Fabrizio Panozzo and the project design and artistic direction of research fellows Valeria Bruzzi and Viviana Carlet – seeks to actively involve citizens in research and innovation processes, positioning society as a central player not only in consuming data and research findings but also as a co-creator in the development and enhancement of local territories.

At the heart of this project are eight artistic residencies spread across Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, and Trentino-Alto Adige. These residencies function as instruments of community engagement, promoting sustainable tourism based on understanding, respect, and the valorisation of local identities through various artistic expressions. Artists, selected from over 140 national applications, come from diverse disciplines – music, theater, visual and performing arts, as well as relational and environmental art – and will collaborate with local communities to reinterpret and enhance both tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

Another key goal of the initiative is to engage local businesses as crucial actors in the cultural and economic life of their regions. This synergy between art, economy, and cultural heritage aims to create a sustainable tourism model that fosters innovative ways of narrating and reimagining the region through a participatory approach.

At the conclusion of the project, each artistic residency will culminate in at least one public presentation. The works and narratives developed by the artists will be showcased at local multidisciplinary events and festivals, amplifying the project’s outcomes and emphasising the multifaceted nature of the activities.
