BAM Palermo: from the Mediterranean and beyond the seas

BAM – Biennale Arcipelago Mediterraneo is an international research festival in the field of visual arts, performing arts and theatre dedicated to the peoples and cultures facing the sea and focused on the themes of welcome and dialogue.

The contemporary art festival inaugurated in 2017 returns to Palermo from 23 September 2022 until 22 January 2023, with the title “INSATURO”. The third edition of BAM aims to involve the city’s historical centre and the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa with a series of exhibitions, interventions and projects investigating urgencies and contradictions of the contemporary world.

Promoted by the MeNO Association and the Merz Foundation under the artistic direction of Andrea Cusumano and with the patronage of the City of Palermo, BAM aims to transform the city into a major hub of artistic experimentation. This edition testifies the need to return to a workshop dimension, where the instances and questions raised by artists in their aesthetic and conceptual exploration are the guide. No curatorial concept, but a concatenation of events in residence designed to facilitate the encounter and collaboration between artists. The theme of plural identities, of archipelagos that distinguish themselves and dialogue with each other is thus once again declined in a project that expands in the spaces, squares and streets of Palermo.
