Banksy donates triptych to raise funds for Bethlehem hospital
Banksy’s “Mediterranean sea view 2017”, three re-worked oil paintings originally made for and displayed in the lobby of the artist’s The Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem, alludes to the thousands of lives lost at sea during the European migrant crisis of the 2010s.
The elusive British artist has personally donated the triptych to Sotheby’s for the charity auction ‘Rembrandt to Richter’ on July 28th, the proceeds will go towards building a new acute stroke unit and purchasing children’s rehabilitation equipment for BASR hospital in Bethlehem.
The sale also includes one of only three self-portraits by Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn currently privately owned, as well as a Pablo Picasso drawing of muse, Marie-Therese Walter.
