Berlin’s most exclusive nightclub Berghain transform into huge art venue with “Studio Berlin”

August 17, 2020

As of next month you may bypass the doorman at Berlin’s most famous nightclub Berghain (which has been closed in months of late) to find yourself in a immense art venue. The legendary nightclub is to host one of the most important Berlin contemporary art collections: the Boros Foundation, presenting work produced throughout the city’s art studios during lockdown.

The exhibition will include work by Wolfgang Tillmans, Tacita Dean, Cyprien Gaillard and Isa Genzken – as well as lesser well known names yet the most interesting exponents of the new Berlin creative generation such as Anne Imhof, Klara Lidén, Robin Rhode, Rirkrit Tiravanija and Raphaela Vogel. The works presented vary in style and medium, from photography to sculpture, from paintings to multimedia installations, as well as sound works.

The idea came about from the urgency to support both artists and nightclubs in this phase of uncertainty “Berlin has the highest density of ateliers, studios and artistic laboratories in Europe: artists from all over the world move to the German capital to work” states the Studio Berlin website.

Guided tours in several languages will include art historians from the Boros Foundation and may be booked online.
