Bologna Art Weekend 2016
Arte Fiera 2016 will be a special edition since it marks the 40th year of this fair.
The edition will, as usual, be the occasion for various galleries and artspaces in town to host events and exhibitions throughout the weekend. It will run from the 29th of January to the 1st of February 2016.
One of the main events will definitely be the Italian premier of Matthew Barney‘s River of Fundament, at the Teatro Comunale Opera House. The event that brings together cinema, music, performance and theatrein a great opera. River of Fundament is characterized by musical performances directed according to the logic of the narrative: the story unfolds sculpturally, cinematically, and musically. Sounds inherent to the landscape or action become part of the musical texture of the film, such that the setting itself becomes a musical instrument.
P420 opens its new gallery space with two exhibitions titled “Naive Set Theory”: a project by Paolo Icaro, whose works have been chosen to activate a dialogue with an exhibition that includes pieces by Bettina Buck, Marie Lund and David Schutter. The two exhibitions share the same space, next to each other or literally one inside the other. They can establish a dialogue of contrasts or temporary assonance, bringing connections to light between the poetics of artists who belong to different geographies and backgrounds. Nearly imperceptible resemblances that indicate shared concerns conveyed in different forms.
At MAMbo “Arte Fiera 40. Storia di una Collezione” offers, for the very first time, a selection of works acquired by BolognaFiere during the many editions of the event. Together with some of the undisputed masters of the Seventies are on desplay works of artists from the Nineties who are now acknowledged also outside Italy. Furthermore, there will be works by the new generations on display in order to underline the importance that Arte Fiera has always dedicated to the promotion of research and experimentation by younger artists.
