Bolzano Art Weeks 2025: Remapping LAND/marks

October 3, 2025

Bolzano becomes a living laboratory of contemporary art from October 3 to 12, 2025, as the city hosts the fifth edition of BAW – Bolzano Art Weeks. Creativity, nature, and social reflection converge across more than 80 events, 30 exhibitions, and 50 venues, reaffirming the festival’s spirit of inclusivity and participation.

Founded by Nina Stricker, Barbara Brugnara, Valentina Cramerotti, Hannes Egger and Massimiliano Giannotti, BAW was conceived as an “open platform for all”, generating connections among artists, institutions and citizens, and challenging hierarchies within the art system.

This year’s theme, “Remapping LAND/marks”, invites us to rethink the relationship between art, territory and the environment, shifting from an anthropocentric to an ecocentric perspective. The festival brings attention to urban gardens, natural sites, and usually inaccessible locations, offering a fluid map that encompasses both architectural landmarks and hidden ecosystems.

Installations, performances, and site-specific projects explore the interdependence between culture and landscape: from Kata Hinterlechner’s underground soundscapes to the Collettivo Éclat’s work on the ginkgo biloba tree, from Martina Fontana’s reflections on the intelligence of bees to Nadia Vallino’s botanical sculptures. Performance remains one of the most vital practices, with artists such as Roberto Paci Dalò, Marc Herbst and Nadia Tamanini engaging audiences directly.

Major institutions like Museion, Fondazione Antonio Dalle Nogare, and Ar/Ge Kunst are once again partners, alongside a rich calendar of talks and conferences that question traditional mapping practices and their ability to give visibility to marginalised subjectivities.

BAW positions itself as more than a festival: it is an ecosystem in the making, reimagining the coexistence of art, nature and community.
