The graphic designer Beeple left a permanent mark in the history of contemporary art last March 11. That day, his digital artwork “Everydays: the first 5000 days” was sold by Christie’s for the enormous amount of 69.346.250 dollars, breaking the records of Art Masters such as J.M.W. Turner, Georges Seurat, and Francisco Goya. The auction also placed Beeple among the first three living artists for the prices achieved, after Jeff Koons and David Hockney.
The amount is also the highest ever paid in the history of online art auctions.

The event marks an unprecedented turn for art collecting thanks to the Nft technology that allowed the selling. The Nft – Not Fungible Tokens are a recent invention consisting of a virtual code made of letters and numbers associated with digital artworks suitable for proving the possession of a virtual art piece. Each code is unique and not interchangeable with other assets, so it also determines the uniqueness of the art piece. Other digital artworks were already auctioned through this technology, the second-to-last by Beeple too.
“Everydays: the first 5000 days” is a giant collage of thousands of megabytes made of images by Beeple himself. In 2007, he decided to create and post online a new image every day and this is the result of this fifteen-year-long commitment.

The introduction of the Nft could be a massive revolution for crypto and digital artists, finally opening them the way to the art market.
