Documenta fifteen unveils its public programme in the conversation series “lumbung calling”

Opening from June 18 – September 25, 2022, in Kassel, documenta fifteen launched the first of a seven-part conversation series titled “lumbung calling” to unveil its public programme. The documenta fifteen’s concept, in fact, revolves around the Indonesian word “lumbung”, literally a rice barn used in the rural areas of Indonesia, where the community store the crops as a future common resource.

Just as the lumbung, documenta fifteen presents as a collective resource pot, an agglomeration of stories, ideas, and more, fostered by an intense programme of residencies, assemblies, public activities, and the development of tools.

From April to October 2021, on each month’s first Saturday, a conversation from the “lumbung calling” series digs deeper into one of the lumbung’s values: LocalAnchor, Humor, Generosity, Independence, Transparency, Sufficiency, and Regeneration. The format is hosted by the artist Jumana Emil Abboud and ruangrupa member Mirwan Andan with the participation of academics, cultural activists, independent researchers, organic farmers, fishermen, and festival organizers, among others.

The format is streamed online on documenta’s Facebook and Youtube channels; the next appointment will take place on May 1, 2021, focussing on the topic of humour.
