Frieze London finally returns in October: due to the emergency caused by the pandemic, the 2020 edition will consist of a hybrid online and offline programme.

With over 250 international leading galleries, Frieze London and Frieze Masters return on Frieze Viewing Room online platform, at its second iteration. Thanks to the success of the first edition, the website has been developed to feature new functionalities.

Among the participating galleries, international names are featured such as Gagosian, Marian Goodman Gallery, Hauser & Wirth, Xavier Hufkens, Pace Gallery, Skarstedt, Sprüth Magers, Van de Weghe and David Zwirner, and leaders in their field such as 303 Gallery, A Gentil Carioca, Kavi Gupta, Jenkins Johnson Gallery, Jhaveri Contemporary, Karma, kurimanzutto, Galerie Lelong, Mendes Wood DM, Almine Rech and Sikkema Jenkins & Co.

Frieze Viewing Room

Frieze Viewing Room will be live from October 9–16, anticipated by a two-day invite-only preview on October 7 and 8. The fair’s structure will feature the usual sections: Focus – a platform for young galleries and creative talents; Possessions, the new themed section focused on spirituality in contemporary art, curated by Zoé Whitley (Director, Chisenhale Gallery, London);  Spotlight, the critically acclaimed Frieze Masters’ section, dedicated to solo presentations by established artists of the 20th century, curated by Laura Hoptman (Executive Director, The Drawing Center, New York).

Frieze Week

Besides the fair’s online programming, Frieze Week features events and presentations throughout the city, including major museum exhibitions, and Frieze Sculpture. Frieze Talks – a series of panel discussions and lectures directed by Dr Nicholas Cullinan – and LIVE are also part of the programme.
This year, the latter will be curated by Victor Wang who will establish a temporary institute of sound and performance art alongside a group of artists at 9 Cork Street.

Frieze Artist Award 2020

Supported by Forma, the Frieze Artist Award 2020 presents a major opportunity each year for an emerging international artist to present a new commission. This year’s recipient is Alberta Whittle, whose “winning proposal is a moving-image work that explores timely questions relating to personal healing and the cultivation of hope in hostile environments; be it the pandemic, colonialism or xenophobia” as stated by Eva Langret, Artistic Director of Frieze London. The Award is a central feature of Frieze London’s programme, occurring concurrently with Frieze London gallery sections.
Whittle’s commission will premiere on October 8 at 5 pm with an invite-only screening, and will simultaneously become available online.
