Frieze New York 2020 canceled due to the Coronavirus crisis
Due to open on May 6, 2020, Frieze announced in a letter to exhibitors the cancelation of Frieze New York art fair‘s ninth edition for safety reasons after the international Coronavirus’ emergency.
The fair’s calling off follows the shut down of all the city’s museums, galleries, and cultural centres, and Mayor Bill de Blasio’s complete banning of gatherings of more than 500 people.
Signed by global director Victoria Siddall, Frieze New York director Loring Randolph, and Frieze Fairs deputy director Kristell Chadé, the letter to dealers brings up the “global health concerns” and the “advice and restrictions from local, national, international health authorities”.
The same letter mentions that the Frieze Sculpture at Rockefeller Center will regularly open in the summer rather than in May, while Frieze London and Frieze Masters are still scheduled in the first week of October.
