Hirshhorn Museum to Stage a Major Survey on Ilya and Emilia Kabakov
Coinciding with another major retrospective on the Russian born artists hosted by Tate Modern (October 18, 2017 – January 28, 2018), “Utopian Projects” at Hirshhorn Museum in Washington D.C. will celebrate the duo career after 30 years absence from their first show within the museum.
The exhibition aims to engage visitors in the miniature and surreal world of Ilya and Emilia’s maquettes, giving the opportunity to understand the creative process and the development of their practice.
Spanning the years between 1985 and the present day, the show features Kabakovs’ maquettes and whimsical models as well as monuments, allegorical narratives, architectural structures, and commissioned outdoor works.
“Utopian Projects” is on view at the Hirshhorn Museum from September 7, 2017 to March 4, 2018.
