How to Support Beirut’s Cultural Sector
Here is a selection of trusted cultural sector organisations where to make donations to help support the cultural community of Beirut in this period of unprecedented devastation and hardship following the August 4th Beirut blast.
House of Today, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the Lebanese design culture and is helping designers that have been affected by the Beirut Blast rebuild their studios. Donations may be made via bank transfer and designers may fill an online application. All details can be found on their website.
Bebw’shebbek lead by PR executive Mariana Wehbe and Nancy Gabriel, co-founder of Gabriel & Guillaume gallery seek to rebuild as many doors and windows of the 80,000 destroyed homes. Bebw’shebbek visit, assess, measure, cover and procure the necessary doors and windows with the help of over 200 architects, interior designers, engineers and carpenters. Donations can be made via their partner account Unite Lebanon Youth.
AFAC – the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture
Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) and Culture Resource (Al-Mawred Al-Thaqafy) have launched an international fundraising campaign to support Beirut’s culture and the arts community. The raised funds will support affected arts and culture organisations and spaces based on urgency following their preliminary assessment of organisations damaged by the explosion.
Support the Sursock Museum, a modern and contemporary art museum in the heart of Beirut that opened in 1961, the museum has endured considerable damage. Make a donation to help rebuild this brilliant institution.
The Arab Image Foundation works at the intersection of photographic, artistic, research, and preservation practices. The explosion destroyed the walls of the Cool Storage Room (CSR) at AIF and damaged the shelving units that hold the collections. The cooling system, ceiling and fireproof doors were also destroyed.
