After a massive renovation process, the new MoMA opened on October 21st, 2019 and will feature a vast programme of exhibitions and activities.

The estate development, designed by the architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler, required a commitment that lasted over five years, an investment of 450 million dollars and, not least, the demolition of the building where the former resided American Folk Art Museum.

The “new” MoMA adds 3,500 square meters of additional exhibition space (total 15 thousand square meters) which will allow exhibiting at any time about 2,400 works, about 1,000 more than the previous building. The curators plan to change the installations of the permanent collection every six months, with a complete renovation of the galleries every 18 months to encourage new perspectives on modern and contemporary art.
