In Florence: Urs Fischer is Taking Over Piazza della Signoria
After the first edition of “InFlorence” which saw the participation of star-artist Jeff Koons (2015), curator Francesco Bonami and Fabrizio Moretti have selected Urs Fischer to stage a huge installation in Piazza della Signoria, inaugurating on Septmber 22, 2017.
For the occasion, the Swiss artist, who has been living for many years in New York, has devised a double unpublished project focusing on sculpture, taking into account the historical and artistic context of the city.
“Big Clay“, a large 12 meteres sculpture in metal, will be staged in Piazza della Signoria: the forms have something primordial and infantile, totemic and architectural.
Furthermore, Fischer will place two works on the Arario of Palazzo Vecchio: these are two human figures, transformed into candles, which will be consumed slowly during the exhibition, as symbols of human finitude and the durability of art.
The “two figures” will be those of Francesco Bonami and Fabrizio Moretti, seen by the artist as citizens of the world who have their roots in the territory and in their culture.
