‘Italia in attesa’, 2020 through the gaze of 12 photographers

Palazzo Barberini in Rome presents the photographic exhibition Italia in-attesa, from February 25th to June 13th, 2021.

The exhibition brings together photographic essays by 12 different artists, individually scrutinising the suspended reality brought about by the pandemic and how this has led to a reconditioning of both physical and inner space.

The 12 photographers narrate 2020, be it by observing ordinary life, cultural and artistic heritage, or the urban and natural landscapes of the Italian peninsula. The ancient and monumental context of Palazzo Barberini (spaces rarely or never previously open to the public) give life to the contemporary incursions and unexpected dialogues stimulated by the works on show, images ranging in genres and generations, methods and techniques, tradition and experimentation.

The curators Margherita Guccione, Carlo Birrozzi and Flaminia Gennari Santori, have sought “a choral and polyphonic story of the current situation, at the same time taking into account how the lockdown and the health emergency may have influenced the gaze of some of the key Italian visual narrators”.

The 12 participating photographers are: Olivo Barbieri, Antonio Biasiucci, Silvia Camporesi, Mario Cresci, Paola De Pietri, Ilaria Ferretti, Guido Guidi, Andrea Jemolo, Francesco Jodice, Allegra Martin, Walter Niedermayr, George Tatge.
