Italian museums to face a new lockdown until December 3, 2020
Italian museums are closing again their doors to the public, due to the new spread of Covid-19 across the entire nation. It is now an official closure, following an announcement by Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte that the country is tightening restrictions, from November 5 through December 3. Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism of Italy, Dario Franceschini stated: “The contagion data is now affecting the sanitary system in a different way from February, March. The growth of infections and daily hospitalizations takes us if the curve does not stop in a saturation of the hospitals […]”.
Given those circumstances, the directors of many cultural institutions and museums are worried about the loss of much-needed revenue from ticket sales and would need new funds from the Italian government.
