On the occasion of Art Basel week in Miami Beach, the National YoungArts Foundation is hosting two exhibitions: a solo show with new works by José Parlá and a group show – titled “When we were Young” – showcasing masterpieces from the JPMorgan Chase Art Collection. Visitors are welcomed to join a breakfast and private tour of the show on December 1st from 9am to 11am.

“Miami Art Week provides an incredible opportunity to showcase some of YoungArts’ most accomplished alumni in the visual arts on an international stage,” said Carolina García Jayaram, YoungArts’ President & Chief Executive Officer. “We are thrilled to partner with JPMorgan Chase in an exhibition that fosters dialogue between contemporary masters and emerging talent, as well as with SCAD and our esteemed Master Teacher and friend José Parlá, whose work continues to inspire the next generation of artists. I look forward to welcoming longtime patrons and first-time visitors to the YoungArts Campus for a week full of exciting artistic experiences and conversation.”

Running November 29 – December 4, “When we were Young” is a group exhibition featuring works from the huge collection of the JPMorgan Chase Art Collection which counts over 30,000 artworks located worldwide. On view are works by Joan Mitchell, Josef Albers, Jasper Johns, Robert Indiana and Alma Thomas. The masterpieces will be paired with new works by YoungArts Visual Art alumni, including video, sculpture and photo works.

Commissioned by the Rolls-Royce Art Programme and SCAD, Cuban-American artist José Parlá is showcasing an immersive and site-specific installation. Titled “Roots”, the artwork brings the artist back to his origins and to the country where he spent most of his life. Also on view are new paintings and sculptures the artist created specifically for this occasion.

The exhibition is curated by Laurie Ann Farrell, Executive Director of Exhibition Initiatives at SCAD Museum of Art. “It’s exciting to unveil a new body of work while returning to my hometown. Together with RollsRoyce and SCAD, I’ve created a spectacular installation for YoungArts’ iconic Jewel Box, a place where I’ve seen so many young artists soak in inspiration,” José Parlá commented. “It’s an honor to support the arts and future artists and it is a great privilege for me to create this work with such great serendipity under the global spotlight of Art Basel Miami Beach.”
