French street artist JR is erecting a new inhabitable sculptural installation on the roof of the Casa Amarela (Yellow House) social, cultural, and educational center in Rio. The monumental crescent moon-shaped studio space will be used to host artists in residence, who JR says he hopes will also offer workshops to the children of the area.

Situated in Rio’s Morro da Providencia favela, Casa Amarela was inaugurated by JR in 2009 to provide cultural activities to the local community. According to the CoFondation, which owns the center, Casa Amarela features an open-air cinema, a children’s library, and offers a range of classes such as reading and photography to the local youth.
