Michael Wolf: Life in Cities

Under the umbrella of Arles 2017, Les Rencontres de la Photographie (July 3 – September 24, 2017), Hong Kong based artist and photographer Michael Wolf presents his solo show “Life in Cities”, from July 3.

The show presents a selection of works by Wolf, depicting life in the vast metropolises like Chicago, Tokyo and Hong Kong: the central piece is “The Real Toy Story installation” (2004) featuring over 20,000 plastic “Made in China” toys found by the artists in junk markets and second-hand shops in the US; the piece is paired with sympathetic portraits of individual Chinese assembly-belt workers that produce those little toys to satisfy the manic worldwide demand for cheap consumer goods.
