Mumbai Gallery Weekend 2016

Mumbai Gallery Weekend (MGW) is a unique initiative that commenced in the year 2012 by leading contemporary art galleries of Mumbai. Its prime objective is to engage not only existing but also potential collectors and supporters of the arts, in order to broaden the reach and relevance of contemporary art. Since its inception, the Weekend has featured an international level of art and conversation set within a diverse set of locations across the city.

Mumbai Gallery Weekend 2016 will take place over three days, from January 22nd to January 24th. The seven host galleries – Chatterjee & Lal, Chemould Prescott Road, Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke, Gallery Maskara, Lakeeren Gallery, Project 88 and Sakshi Gallery – will serve as the setting against which a program of additional events have been planned. Artists who will be mounting solo exhibitions include Alke Reeh, Jitish Kallat, Pablo Bartholomew, Prajakta Potnis, Sahej Rahal and Tanya Goel. Group shows will include work by Max Streicher and Parag Sonarghare.

The galleries will host openings at their respective locations on January 22nd. Followed by walkthroughs on the January 23rd, where the artists themselves will lead groups through their exhibitions.

The primary purpose of the Weekend is to offer a platform to bring together avid art appreciators, while providing the larger public greater exposure to contemporary art.
