Nomad Abu Dhabi 2025

Nomad makes its landmark debut in the Middle East by taking over Terminal 1 of Zayed International Airport, launching its global season and marking a new chapter in the fair’s history. From 19 to 22 November, Nomad expands its presence in Abu Dhabi, connecting with a region that blends heritage and tradition with bold cultural ambitions.

The historic Terminal 1, designed by French architect Paul Andreu and opened in 1982, becomes the fair’s centerpiece. With its iconic tent-like roof and sweeping glass façade, the building symbolizes innovation and progress. Retired from service in 2023, the terminal now hosts site-specific presentations that highlight its architecture while transforming the space into an immersive environment for collectible design, contemporary art, and jewellery from leading international galleries.

Nomad in Abu Dhabi showcases a dialogue between regional traditions, Islamic aesthetics, Gulf modernism, and contemporary design. Galleries such as Nilufar (Milan), Gallery Fumi (London), and Galerie BSL (Paris) present works ranging from historic Italian design to innovative sculptures and ceramics. Regional voices include The AP Room (Dubai), Don Tanani (Cairo), Le LAB (Cairo), and Gem Alf (Istanbul), offering sculptural and functional pieces that reinterpret cultural heritage. Leila Heller Gallery (Dubai, New York) adds a major art component with a sweeping display of Chihuly’s glass sculptures.

Special projects further explore craft and materiality, including Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council’s Tilad Collection, A. A. Murakami and Trame’s immersive installation, and Parsa’s monumental stone sculptures. Collaborations such as Orient 499 with David/Nicolas and Maison Perrier-Jouët’s ecological installation Cohabitare highlight the fusion of tradition, sustainability, and innovation.

Departures transforms the former Etihad Hub into a platform for large-scale projects by regional and international artists, while Destinations by Bottega Veneta presents reinterpretations of its iconic Intrecciato weave by designers from North Africa and the Middle East. Off-site, Shifting Terrains at Jumeirah Saadiyat Island reflects the evolving creative landscape of the UAE through works by Datecrete, KAMEH, and other regional artists.

Presented with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and supported by Abu Dhabi Airports, Nomad 2025 activates an architectural landmark, celebrates collectible design, and contributes meaningfully to the cultural dialogue between the Middle East and the global arts world.
