Pestifera Film Festival at Castello di Rivoli in Turin

Castello di Rivoli’s summer film festival launches on June 26th, under the title of ‘Pestifera’, curated by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, Irene Dionisio and Fulvio Paganin.

The festival investigates the representation of pandemics throughout the history of cinema, cult films such as Werner Herzog’s Nosferatu (1978) and Lars von Trier’s Epidemic (1987) will be screened as well as the latest releases surrounding the current Covid-19 pandemic. Screenings will take place each Friday until July 24th in the castle’s gardens and will be accompanied by live music and readings.

June 26th:
Die Pest im Florenz / The Plague of Florence
Directed by Otto Rippert
With an introduction by historian Giuseppe Sergi
The film will be accompanied with live music by Riccardo Mazza

July 3rd
Nosferatu
Directed by Werner Herzog
With a reading from Paolo Giordano’s ‘How Contagion Works’

July 10th
Epidemic
Directed by Lars von Trier
With a reading by Leonardo Caffo of his Covid Manifesto: Notes for an after that might have been before

July 17th
28 Days Later 
Directed by Danny Boyle
With a reading by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev’s from the text ‘Riflessioni sulla peste’ by Giorgio Agamben

July 24th
Darkness (Buio)
Directed by Emanuela Rossi
With an introduction by director Emanuela Rossi as well as a reading by Irene Dionisio from Coronavirus Capitalism by Naomi Klein
