Siris: Herakleia Archaeological Park
Talk
Herakleia Archaeological Park
October 1 2024, 6:30pm
On 1 October at 6:30 p.m., the Milan Triennale hosts a talk on “Siris”, an artistic project conceived by STUDIO STUDIO, founded by Edoardo Tresoldi, aimed at enhancing the Archaeological Park of Herakleia in Policoro (MT). The project includes works by the Belgian duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh, the Spanish artist Selva Aparicio, and the Italian artist and musician Max Magaldi.
This initiative is part of the “Enhancement of sacred areas of the Herakleia Archaeological Park and creation of an Ecomuseum” project, promoted by the Ministry of Culture under the National Operational Programme (PON) “Culture and Development”, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2014-2020. The Herakleia Archaeological Park is one of the sites included in the network of National Museums and Archaeological Parks managed by the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Basilicata. The enhancement work is coordinated by the Regional Secretariat of the Ministry of Culture for Basilicata.
“Siris”, under the artistic direction of Antonio Oriente, takes place in the so-called Vallata Mediana of the Herakleia Archaeological Park. This site, also used as an urban park, hosts important archaeological remains, such as the Archaic Temple and the Sanctuary of Demeter, which are currently difficult to appreciate due to their limited state of preservation.
The project, designed by STUDIO STUDIO STUDIO, is experimental and focuses on an artistic interpretation of the archaeological remains, their history, and the current ecosystem. The interventions are reversible and non-invasive, blending into the landscape without permanently affecting its material integrity. The entire project and its various stages will be documented in a film by director Giovanni Troilo, dedicated to “Siris.”
Contributors from the Ministry of Culture include Luigi La Rocca, Head of the Department for the Protection of Cultural and Landscape Heritage; Massimo Osanna, Director General of Museums; Luigina Tomay, Director of the Regional Secretariat for Basilicata; Annamaria Mauro, Director of the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Basilicata; and Giuliano Zerillo, Official of the Regional Secretariat for Basilicata and Project Manager for the initiative. Representing STUDIO STUDIO STUDIO are Edoardo Tresoldi, founder of the studio; Antonio Oriente, artistic director; and artists Pieterjan Gijs, Arnout Van Vaerenbergh, and Max Magaldi. The discussion is moderated by Walter Mariotti, editorial director of Domus.
