The iconic Berghain club in Berlin to host a major group exhibition in collaboration with Boros Foundation

During the Covid19 emergency, while art spaces and museums were forced to shut down, artists and freelance cultural workers received financial support from the Berlin Senate. On the other hand, the city’s night clubs – likewise crucial for the German capital’s cultural identity – struggled to survive. In this context, the international renown techno club Berghain decided to act differently, opening to something new.

In collaboration with the Boros Foundation, one of the main private art collection of the city, the Berghain set up a wide group exhibition occupying almost entirely the formerly dancing spaces.

Gathering 117 artists living and working in the German capital, the exhibition features works mostly produced since the pandemic’s outbreak to reflect upon the current status and the shifts in art and society. The event is also the occasion to give artists in Berlin a platform to present their work in a period of drastic changes, exhibitions and art fairs’ cancellations.

The participating artists include significant artistic positions such as Julius von Bismarck, Monica Bonvicini, Julian Charrière, Tacita Dean, Jimmie Durham, Olafur Eliasson, Elmgreen & Dragset, Katharina Grosse, Petrit Halilaj & Alvaro Urbano, Anne Imhof, Alicja Kwade, Carsten Nicolai, and many more, working across different media such as photography, sculpture, painting, video, sound, performance, and installation. The exhibition, titled “Studio Berlin”, will be on view from September 9 onward, in Berghain, Panorama Bar, Säule and Halle.
