The line-up of the 76th Venice International Film Festival has been announced
The line-up of the 76th Venice International Film Festival has been announced yesterday, July 25th, during the press conference held at the Cinema Moderno, in Rome. The Festival will take place from August 28 to September 7, 2019 under the guidance of the President of the Biennale di Venezia Paolo Baratta and the director of the Cinema department Alberto Barbera.
The sections which form the official programme of the Festival are six: 21 feature-length international or world premieres will compete in the main section, Venezia 76; 24 films, selected between the most relevant productions of the year, will be shown Out of Competition, divided between “fiction”, “non fiction” and “special screenings”.
The section Orizzonti will represent the latest trends in international cinema, with a special focus on debut films and young talents. The competition distinguish feature-length and short movies. The Venice Classics will feature a fine selection of restored films while Sconfini will include four works of different genres, accompanied by encounters with the public.
The Venice Virtual Reality selection completes the line-up: virtual reality immersive stories will premiere at the Festival, divided between competing and out of competition films.
It will be the film “La Vérité (The Truth)”, directed by the Japanese director Kore-Eza Hirokazu, to open the Official Competition on September 28th, under the scrutiny of the international jury chaired by the Argentine director Lucrecia Martel.
The 2019 edition of the Festival will also award two career prizes: the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement will be given to the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, for his contribution to the art of cinema; while the English actress Julie Andrews will be the recipient of the second Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement of the 76th Venice International Film Festival, for her long-standing career, including internationally renown classic movies.
The tickets for the movie projections will be available for purchase on the website of La Biennale di Venezia.
