Tirana Art Weekend
The Albanian Visual Arts Network (AVAN) presents Tirana Art Weekend, running from Friday, November 29 to Sunday, December 1, 2024. AVAN, established in spring 2024, aims to represent Albania’s vibrant art scene to regional and international audiences. It seeks to unify independent art institutions and local galleries, giving them a stronger collective voice and supporting both emerging and established artists.
Tirana Art Weekend is AVAN’s first public event, coinciding with Albania’s Independence Day. The event brings together key figures from the independent art scene, featuring a variety of exhibition spaces, cultural organizations, and local collectives. With 15 partners, the programme showcases contemporary art projects that highlight the work of notable Albanian and international artists, inviting collectors and professionals to explore Tirana’s dynamic art landscape.
The main hub of Tirana Art Weekend is the headquarters of the Institute for the Integration of Former Political Victims, housed in a newly restored early 20th-century villa. This location will feature initiatives without a permanent venue or based outside Tirana, while the city’s galleries and project spaces will coordinate openings throughout the weekend.
Participating venues include Art House, Art Kontakt, Pararoja, Tirana Art Lab, The Albanian Cinematheque, and others. A satellite program expands to locations like Apparat Studio, Zenit Gallery, and the Gallery of Arts Tirana.
Founded during the 2024 Vlora Art Meeting, AVAN is a coalition of diverse visual arts entities united by a shared commitment to artistic expression, transparency, and critical dialogue. Supported by the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Raiffeisen Invest Albania, and the EU in Albania, Tirana Art Weekend promotes the flourishing Albanian art scene.
