Alessandra Quarto
An architect born in 1974, Alessandra Quarto holds a PhD in the History and Criticism of Architecture.
From 2002 to 2011 she worked at the Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte, where she was responsible for exhibition design projects, the reinstallation of the historic rooms, and all activities related to the preservation and enhancement of the site.
Winner of the national competition launched by the Ministry of Culture, in 2012 she became Technical Director of the Pinacoteca di Brera, overseeing building works and projects related to the Palazzo di Brera. From 2016 to 2019 she served as Deputy Director of the Pinacoteca di Brera, designing and coordinating the museum’s full reinstallation thanks to the experience gained over more than ten years between Naples and Milan. Owing to her administrative and managerial expertise, she was responsible for major projects funded with European resources.
In 2019 she was appointed Superintendent for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Biella, Novara, Verbano Cusio Ossola and Vercelli, based in Novara. In 2022 she headed the Superintendency for the Metropolitan City of Bologna and the provinces of Modena, Reggio Emilia and Ferrara, achieving significant objectives and securing agreements for large-scale projects within the PNRR framework.
She has served on numerous selection committees for the appointment of directors of state museums on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, as well as on UNESCO committees in Modena and Bologna.
She has undertaken fundraising courses in Italy and abroad and successfully negotiated numerous agreements supporting patronage initiatives for museums.
She attended the Bocconi School of Management, earning a master’s degree in managerial development and strategic vision.
She taught Museography as an adjunct professor at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera from 2016 to 2022.
Since 2 January 2023 she has been Director of the Museo Poldi Pezzoli in Milan, appointed following an international selection process.
She lives in Milan, has published various essays and has taken part in numerous conferences on architecture, restoration, and museum practice.
