Arne Quinze
Arne Quinze was born in 1971 in Belgium and lives and works in Sint-Martens-Latem. In the 1980s, he began his career as a graffiti artist, having never received formal art training. Quinze creates large and small sculptures, drawings, paintings, and monumental installations. His smaller works, sketches, and studies often serve as research and foundations for his larger pieces. Recurring elements in his work include the use of various types of wood painted in vivid, electric colours. Other central themes are social interaction, communication, and urbanism. He is currently working on a large-scale steel installation.
Driven by the conviction that an ideal society—one in which everyone communicates and interacts—is achievable, Quinze’s work focuses on community engagement and social cohesion. His installations are designed to provoke reaction and to intervene in the everyday lives of their viewers. Through his unconventional public works, Quinze transforms the perception of urban spaces in cities across Belgium, Germany, France, Lebanon, China, the United States, and beyond.
Drawing inspiration from every culture he encounters, Quinze’s oeuvre radiates optimism. An obsessive collector of used materials, he breathes new life into them through reuse in his art. Beyond architectural sculptures, he creates complex artworks that reflect his vision of the relationship between society and the individual.
