Aron Demetz
Aron Demetz (1972, Vipiteno, South Tyrol, Italy) is a sculptor whose work centers on the human figure and the expressive potential of wood. He studied at the Istituto d’Arte in Selva di Val Gardena, Italy, and later at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Nuremberg, Germany. Since 2010, he has been Professor of Sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara, Italy. Demetz lives and works in Selva di Val Gardena, Italy.
Rooted in the centuries-old woodcarving tradition of his native Val Gardena, Demetz transforms this heritage into a deeply personal and contemporary language. Using woods such as linden, cherry, redwood, fir, poplar, maple, and cedar, he explores the body’s physical and emotional states through processes that embrace imperfection, decay, and regeneration. In recent years, he has incorporated natural resins, fire, and robotic intervention into his practice, further expanding his material and conceptual vocabulary.
