Bae Bien-U
Born in Yeosu, 1950 and lives in Seoul
Bae Bien-U is recognised as one of the greatest contemporary artists in South Korea. Born in 1950, Bae was originally trained in painting and design. He started taking photographs during his freshman year of college in 1970, encouraged by a neighbourhood friend. From that moment on and till now, he continues to take photos. While best known for his pine tree series, his artworks range from the islands of Tahiti, Korean temples, Domaine de Chambord, to Alhambra Palace. Bae has exhibited in a number of major institutions such as Thyssen Museum in Madrid, Museum of Modern Art in Saint-Etienne, and Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
