Kathy Barry holds an MFA (2004) and a BFA (1991) from the Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Art History (2001) from Victoria University, Wellington. In 2012 she was the seventeenth McCahon House artist-in-residence, followed by a three-month residency at the Vermont Studio Center in the United States. She has taught the history and theory of art and design, as well as studio papers in painting and drawing at New Zealand tertiary institutions. Kathy’s work is included in national and international art collections, including The James Wallace Arts Trust Collection and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Homeworld: Kathy Barry and Isobel Thom was exhibited atTe Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery from December 2014 to February 2015. Recently Kathy was included in Believe not every spirit, but try the spirits, guest curated by Lars Bang Larsen and Marco Pasi, Monash University Museum of Art / MUMA. Melbourne, Australia. (22 April to 27 June). In September 2016 a new series will be shown at the 32nd Sao Paulo Biennial co-curated by Lars Bang Larsen Sofia Olascoaga, Julia Reboucas and Gabi Ngcobo, chief curator Jochen Volz.
