Juraj Bartusz
Born in Kamenín, 1933 and lives in Košice
Juraj Bartusz is a sculptor and conceptual artist, closely inspired by minimalism and concretism, experimenting with a wide range of media including video, installation and environmental art. Prominent exponent of action art – as a performer he commented on current social and political issues. He came to attention at the beginning of 60´s soon after graduating from a sculpture at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. After the graduation he settled in Košice. He was a member of conctretistic movement, inclined towards geometrical abstraction and minimalism. In the middle of the 70ies he turned to conceptual art, land art installations and events. He is a one of the pioneers of early computer art in Slovakia. His work has been shown extensively. In 2004 he was awarded Munkácsy Prize. In 1998 he founded the Studio of Free Creativity at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Košice.
