Cyril Blazo

Born in Bratislava, 1970 and lives in Bratislava

Cyril Blažo is an artist with a cult status. During his studies at The Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (1988-94) he founded with Boris Ondreička and Stano Dančiak an art collective Blondiak (Blond Guy). He is an important element in the first post November generation, characterized by strong inclination towards post-conceptual tendencies. He entered the Slovak art scene in the middle of 90ies, working in various media: drawing painting, collage, photography, and object. He is ardent a collector of a visual material of all types. By re-coding of the found image he is creating new hybrid situations, usually of absurd nature. Swiftly swapping the original context for a new meaning Blažo is constantly provoking our perception and attention to detail when reading of his coded message. The border between initial image and the new visual is intentionally blurred. As a result, Blažo is creating a unbound mixture of amusing and humorous sketches, appealing both visually and intellectually.
