Suzana Dan

Born in Zărnești, 1976 and lives in Bucharest

Suzana Dan (b. 1976 in Zarnesti) lives and works in Bucharest. She graduated in 1999 from the University of Arts in Bucharest, in the Painting Department, becoming one of the foremost activists of the 2000s’ generation. Suzana Dan’s contribution to the contemporary art scene was recognised not only as an artist but as well as initiator of a number of well-known projects in the local art scene, such as White Night of the Galleries, Bucharest Art Galleries Weekend or Art on Display in the framework of Ephemair Association.
Jumping from elaborated underground projects like “The Museum of Dog” to fancy art galleries and museums, displaying tiny dioramas in automobile trunks for an Easter Egg out of ordinary exhibition or VJ’ing with early 1900’s porn movies in AV festivals, Suzana Dan’s approach to art is as complex as her curiosity facing life, nature, lovers and enemies, sitcoms, Tom & Jerry, etc.
“With her own bloody-happy, erotically-abrasive, para-feminist, painfully relaxed tales, Suzana Dan is one of a small number of artists that have deformed-reformed the Romanian art at the beginning of the nineties by professing an avowedly flippant art.” (Erwin Kessler)
