Dušan Josip Smodej

Dušan Josip Smodej is a Slovenian curator, writer and editor. He is a graduate of FAMU, Prague. In 2014 he founded Fotopub Association, which was named one of the best photography institutions in the world by The Guardian in 2018, and was renamed OOU in 2023. In the last years, he worked as Head Curator at Fotopub’s Project Space in Ljubljana as well as freelance internationally. He was one of the founding board members of Ulay Foundation. He led Academia Nuts, an academic programme co-organised by the Ulay Foundation and the University of Ljubljana. Between 2020 and 2022 he was the editor-in-chief of Culture.si, the main Slovenian cultural online magazine owned by the Ministry of Culture. Since 2022 he has mostly worked freelance across Europe, cooperating with various institutions such as The Foundry in South France, The New Centre for Research and Practice in Berlin and 3537 in Paris.
